Ivy Cottage provides quality self-catering holiday accommodation in Dovedale, Derbyshire for 5 in three bedrooms.
Entrance to the cottage is via the handbuilt, wooden, double-glazed conservatory measuring 18 feet long. It offers an immediate warm space not only to come into and to gather yourself before going out, but also affords a really pleasant place to sit, read and observe the garden with many wild birds on the feeders. It has a chaise longue and comfortable chairs round a table and an ottoman, very useful to sit and get walking boots on and off!
From the conservatory you enter the spacious entrance hall with period furniture, table and well-stocked bookcases. This is a welcoming entrance to the cottage. It has an original ruabon tiled floor with large rug to enhance the cosy feel.
The sitting room is off the hall and has a multi-fuel wood burner which we provide all fuel for. Comfortable sofas and chairs make it a really cosy and attractive room with a tasteful atmosphere. It has a grandmother clock and works of art collected by the family over many years hang on the walls. It is fully carpeted with a large colourful rug. There is a flat screen tv, a dvd player and a good selection of dvds as well as a digital radio/CD player and secure wifi (with super fast broadband).
To the other side of the hall is the dining room. This is again a charming, spacious room and has has a really original feel with its Victorian black iron range [not in use] in the original cottage fireplace and stone mantelpiece. A full dining table easily provides seating for six people.
Beyond the dining room is the recently converted kitchen. This is a light and airy room with tiled floor, shaker units, wooden worktops, Belfast sink, dual-fuel Smeg range cooker (electric oven and gas hob) and fridge. It is extremely well equipped with cooking utensils and pans (inlcuding Le Creuset casserole pans, a paella pan and wok) should you wish to cook your own meals from scratch and we provided a range of herbs spices, oils and other provisions.
We provide a generous supply of mugs, glasses, crockery and cutlery, knowing the frustration of running out when only offered 6 of everything!
The utility room houses the dishwasher, washing machine, freezer, microwave and sink. There is also an ironing board, iron and we provided dishwasher tablets, washing up and washing liquid should you require these.
The bedrooms all have their own individual character having been decorated with Farrow and Ball paints and furnished with many family pieces of furniture and pictures. We have made sure the beds [all new] are all comfortable and supplied with extra pillows and fleece blankets should you require them.
The main bedroom is a good size with double bed, built in wardrobe, chests of drawers and a sofa. The view is through original stone windows on to the pretty front garden. It has fitted carpet and rugs.
The pretty single bedroom along the landing also looks out onto the garden.
At the end of the landing is the spacious twin bedroom which also has a built in wardrobe and chest of drawers. It is fully carpeted and looks out on to the front garden and village green.
Both bathrooms have been recently upgraded and equipped. The upstairs shower room is off the little landing at the top of the stairs just outside the main bedroom and has a modern Mira combi shower, wc and basin. There is also a wall electric heater which quickly supplements the radiator if required. The downstairs bathroom off the back of the entrance hall has ruabon tiled floor and rugs. There is a recess bath with electric shower, wc and basin.
